Is Gordon Brown promoting a New World Financial System?

Lorna Thomas - 10/28/2008

At an emergency meeting of the Eurogroup on 12 October, 2008, Prime Minister Gordon Brown presented a proposal to deal with the financial crisis. Aside from immediate stabilization plans for the banking system, he stressed the need for a reformed global finance system to solve global financial problems.

Mr Brown received recognition for the proposal, yet a global finance system is Europe's own goal which could confer enormous power to it and have far reaching consequences for the world. A global financial system led or controlled by Europe will greatly increase Europe's power in all spheres.

It would be naďve for either Britain or the U.S. to believe they will be permitted to play a prominent role in such a system.

Mr Brown - and Europe - have presented the idea of global financial reform but this could be an important step towards a financial system capable of implementing draconian measures in the future.

EUROPE PUSHES FOR A NEW GLOBAL FINANCIAL ORDER

Ahead of Mr Brown's proposal made on 12 October 2008, Associated Press reported on 5 October, that following an emergency meeting, four members of the G8 - Britain, France, Germany and Italy - “called for an international conference "as soon as possible" to consider sweeping reforms of the global finance system.”

French President Nicolas Sarkozy and European Commission President Jose Manual Barroso visited President George Bush at Camp David on 18 October, 2008. Mr Sakozy said “We have a mandate from the 27 members of the European Union to come here and say first and foremost that this is a worldwide crisis and, therefore, we must find a worldwide solution”.

Mr Barroso stated: “The international financial system - its basic principles and regulations and its institutions need reform. We need a new global financial order...This is why Europe wants the calling of an international summit as soon as possible to launch an effective world response to world crisis.”

President George Bush announced he will host a summit for world leaders {15 November, 2008} "to discuss the global response to the financial crisis and ideas to prevent such a crisis from recurring in the future and to preserve our free market system".

Europe is urgent in pushing for changes in the financial system. In a time of financial crisis, the U.S. and Britain are weakened and more likely to succumb to European pressure, particularly since the crisis is blamed on the U.S. Nevertheless, a global financial system led by Europe is absolutely not in the interests of Britain, the U.S. or the free market - or the free world.

President Sarkozy's statement insisting on an summit on global finances being held soon, may sum up Europe's emboldened approach. “Europe wants it. Europe demands it. Europe will get it.”

On 21 October, 2008 President Sarkozy told the European Parliament that “Europe must be the standard bearer for the idea of reforming world capitalism.”

During a press conference at the 2 day EU summit in Brussels on 15-16 October 2008, Manuel Barosso said there will only be “a global agreement if Europe has a leadership role.”

Europe is eager to take up the reins of global power and a global financial system led or controlled by Europe will greatly increase Europe's power in all spheres – political, justice, security, religious.

RUSSIA IN EUROPE – FUTURE NEW GLOBAL LEADERSHIP ROLE

Russia will play a key role in a united Europe, including in its financial, military and religious systems.

During the first World Policy Conference held on 8 October 2008, prior to the summit of the Eurogroup on 12 October, 2008, Russia spoke of a financial system to replace the “unipolar system” dominated by the U.S.

President Dmitry Medvedev said “It is also evident that economic egoism is also a consequence of the unipolar vision of the world and of the desire to be its megaregulator. It is a dead-end policy in terms of global economic development...”

At the 8 October, 2008 meeting, Mr Medvedev praised President Sarkozy's idea of holding a “multilateral meeting to consider the problems of the global financial system” as “a timely proposal.”

In drawing attention to the fact that Russia considers itself as part of Europe, he referred to Mr Sarkozy's proposal of creating “a common economic space between the European Union and Russia” as “far-sighted”. This would make it easier for us to ensure the stability of our economies and create a genuinely new climate for our relations.

President Medvedev said: “I think we could also start discussing together the future of our common European continent. By this I mean Europe’s role in the global economy and the establishment of a just world order.

“Historically, Russia is part of European civilization and for us, as Europeans, it matters a lot what values will shape the future world.”

As EU Trade Commissioner Peter Mandelson has also advocated closer economic and political ties between Europe and Russia, arguing economic ties would facilitate a closer political partnership between them. (It is of note that in a surprise move, Gordon Brown recalled Peter Mandelson as EU Trade Commissioner appointing him Business Secretary on 3 October, 2008. (The previous day Mandelson was made a lord.) Mr Mandelson's views on Europe and Russia could influence important decisions affecting Britain.

In a speech entitled “Russia and the EU: building trust on a shared continent at the “Russia in the 21st century” conference on 20 June 2008, Mandelson said “On Russia's side, I welcome President Medvedev's statement last week that in order to address the issues facing the European continent, we need a stronger sense of shared identity and unity between all of its component parts including the Russian Federation.

“As reconciliation between Russia and Germany was critical to stability in the latter part of the twentieth century, true partnership between Russia and the European Union will be essential to security and prosperity on our continent in the twenty first.”

At the World Policy Conference Russia again proposed a global security system to replace the existing “unipolar system” dominated by the U.S. A joint EU-Russia-U.S. security system was first proposed by Vladimir Putin in 2000. Analysts at the time said it would not be in U.S. interests and would offer no protection against nuclear attack by Russia.

President Medvedev said: “When Russia, Europe and the entire world found themselves confronted with crisis in the Caucasus, we managed to act in a proactive and coordinated manner with a sense of responsibility for our common European future.”

The common future of Russia and Europe is becoming increasingly closely linked.

FUTURE LINK BETWEEN CHURCH AND STATE

As U.S. and British influence weakens in economic, military, political spheres, Europe's is strengthening and will eventually comprise Russian and German leadership with Latin/Latin American influence bringing about drastic changes in the world, affecting all these spheres as well as religion.

Despite France's law, passed on 9 December 1905, separating church and state, Mr Sarkozy advocates a closer link between the two and has written a book on the subject.

Luxembourg Prime Minister and Finance Minister Jean-Claude Juncker is chairman of the Eurogroup and a favourite of Mr Sarkozy for the new post of EU president in 2009.

(According to a report by Adam Boulton on Sky News Mr Juncker “belittled” Mr Brown in stating he had “begged” to come to the emergency meeting on 12 October, 2008 while Bloomberg reported on October 15:

“Luxembourg Finance Minister Jean-Claude Juncker told German newspaper Rheinischer Merkur the U.K. will consider adopting the euro once the credit crisis abates. ``The British prime minister had to beg to be let into the room in which the euro group was meeting,'' Juncker told the newspaper in an interview published today. ``I'm sure that when the storm is over, the British will think about whether they shouldn't become an equal in all decision-making bodies.''

The report also quoted Juncker as saying “I'm demanding, however, that everyone remembers after the crisis, who solved it. Politicians did and not bankers.''

Mr Juncker once told Belgian newspaper Le Soir that he supported public debate on the EU Reform Treaty - except in Britain. In other words, he favored Britain agreeing to the Treaty without knowing the true implications of its terms. He said: "Britain is different. Of course there will be transfers of sovereignty. But would I be intelligent to draw the attention of public opinion to this fact?"

Mr Brown is promoting the concept of a globally reformed financial structure with Europe – but as with the Reform or Lisbon Treaty has Britain been told of the enormous transference of power this could confer on Europe?

Mr Brown refused Britain a referendum Labour had previously promised on the Treaty on the grounds that it was not the same EU Constitution which was rejected by French and Dutch voters in 2005. Yet from German Chancellor Angela Merkel to Giscard d' Estaing, an original architect of the Constitution, it has been acknowledged that the Lisbon Treaty is virtually the same as the rejected Constitution.

In terms of Church-state relations, Mr Juncker's co-editor on the German weekly, Rheinische Merkur, is Steffen Heitmann, church lawyer, ordained priest, former Justice minister of Saxony who ratified a Concordat with the Catholic Church in 1997 governing Church State relations. (The Lateran Treaty was concluded by Mussolini in 1929 while Hitler concluded one with the Catholic Church in 1933.)

Heitmann was nominated for the position of German President in 1993 but withdrew following reaction to his xenophobic views and his views on Germany's past.

There is growing xenophobia in Europe including in Germany, Italy and Russia and such views may find more acceptance in today's world.

Given his views, should Heitmann or someone with similar views achieve a leadership role in Europe, it has the potential to usher in a time of great suffering.

WHAT IS THE REAL RESCUE PLAN FOR THE PEOPLE OF BRITAIN AND THE U.S.?

A Europe, which will include both German and Russian leadership, is in the process of readying itself to take over the reins of global power, a global financial system – as well as a global security system - being an important part of such a system.

It would be a mistake to think that Europe will share power with Britain or the U.S. in some form of democratic multipolar power-sharing.

While British or U.S. leaders may be included in initial negotiations on financial or security changes, Europe's ultimate goal will be to replace the structures which the U.S. and Britain have held influence over, with its own structures and governance.

At this time, Britain and the U.S. are rapidly losing power and prestige in the world as Europe rises. Faced with the crises now, as well as future problems, the only real and lasting solution is to turn back to God, the One Who can protect and bless a nation – and rescue them when in trouble.

Unless the lessons of history are learned, they are destined to be repeated. Today as more and more troubles come upon us as peoples who have professed to follow the God of the Bible, we cannot ignore the warnings in Lev 26 and Deut 28 given to ancient Israel of what would happen if they 1) forgot and forsook God and His Laws based on the 10 Commandments and 2) went after other gods.

And the Lord shall make thee the head, and not the tail; and thou shalt be above only, and thou shalt not be beneath; if that thou hearken unto the commandments of the Lord thy God, which I command thee this day, to observe and to do them:

And thou shalt not go aside from any of the words which I command thee this day, to the right hand, or to the left, to go after other gods to serve them.

But it shall come to pass, if thou wilt not hearken unto the voice of the Lord thy God, to observe to do all his commandments and his statutes which I command thee this day; that all these curses shall come upon thee, and overtake thee:

The Lord shall send upon thee cursing, vexation, and rebuke, in all that thou settest thine hand unto for to do, until thou be destroyed, and until thou perish quickly; because of the wickedness of thy doings, whereby thou hast forsaken me. (Deut 28:13-15,20)

As God would plead with them to return to Him, the blessings they had enjoyed, would steadily be replaced by curses, including having financial troubles and their enemies rising above them.

These chapters show in detail the things which lie ahead if we do not change as nations who profess to worship the God of the Bible but who are instead provoking Him to anger and to jealousy by our behavior. If the warnings are ignored, tragically, conditions will get much worse for the U.S. and Britain. Far worse for a nation than heading into recession, is to be heading into captivity.

Another important Biblical warning shows that a global financial system has the potential to become linked to global state religion, global military power, global dictatorial rulership and that for the period such systems exist, many will suffer greatly. (Rev 13)

Being part of a global financial system under Europe's leadership is not the solution for Britain or the U.S. Ultimately, it will create even greater problems for those who are part of it.

In advocating a system of global financial reform which will be under Europe's leadership, Mr Brown needs to ask himself whether he is promoting Europe's goals - to Britain's great detriment.

In a time of crisis and trouble such as we face, God says:

Therefore also now, saith the Lord, turn ye even to me with all your heart, and with fasting, and with weeping, and with mourning: And rend your heart, and not your garments, and turn unto the Lord your God: for he is gracious and merciful, slow to anger, and of great kindness, and repenteth him of the evil.

(Joel 2:12-13)

If I shut up heaven that there be no rain, or if I command the locusts to devour the land, or if I send pestilence among my people; If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land. (2 Chr 7:13-14)

At what instant I shall speak concerning a nation, and concerning a kingdom, to pluck up, and to pull down, and to destroy it; If that nation, against whom I have pronounced, turn from their evil, I will repent of the evil that I thought to do unto them. And at what instant I shall speak concerning a nation, and concerning a kingdom, to build and to plant it; If it do evil in my sight, that it obey not my voice, then I will repent of the good, wherewith I said I would benefit them. (Jer 18:7-10)

The example of the city of Ninevah spoken of in the book of Jonah remains an example of God's mercy in turning from the punishment He had determined to bring on the people when they wholeheartedly heeded the warning, and turned from their wrong ways.

And God saw their works, that they turned from their evil way; and God repented of the evil, that he had said that he would do unto them; and he did it not.

(Jonah 3:10)

As individuals and nations we have all sinned against God. We need to examine our own ways against what the Bible says because that is the standard by which we as individuals and nations are judged.

Without doubt this is a time Britain and the U.S. should be seeking God's help rather than Europe's.

Rather than putting our trust in man, our trust must be in God, a steadfast Rock in time of crisis.
